Guanaja is the most remote of the Bay Islands, and is certainly the most expensive to get to. There are two options to choose from when getting to Guanaja: air and sea. By air, both Sosa Airlines and Lanhsa offer regular flights from La Ceiba to Guanaja. As a general rule, there are very limited connections from San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa to Guanaja, so you must make all your air travel plans to Guanaja from Lanhsa. Check with Lanhsa for schedules and availability. Make sure you book  in advance as the service is provided in a small aircraft and seats are limited!

By sea, and because of its easternmost location, the Port of La Ceiba is not used as a hub to travel to Guanaja. Trujillo, located one hundred miles east of La Ceiba has become the mainland port from where to travel from the mainland to Guanaja by sea. The Pearl Princess is operating the Trujillo to Guanaja route three times a week, on Monday, Friday and Sunday, departing Guanaja bound for Trujillo at 7:00 a.m. and Trujillo to Guanaja at 2:00 p.m. Departures from Guanaja and Trujillo are from the municipal dock facilities in each city.

Depending on your schedules, it usually makes more sense to travel by air to Guanaja, because it requires a lot less time, however if you do have time on your side, you can take advantage and travel to Trujillo, which is a beautiful and historical destination in the Caribbean Coast of Honduras. Although getting to Guanaja is not easy, you will be rewarded by the lovely natural scenery, idyllic beaches and friendly people from the island.
