Cangrejeada
This activity takes place from May to July coinciding with the holiday of the guanajeños living abroad.This is done in groups, The people distribute themselves in several boats, aiming to move to sites where crabs are caught.
The activity is usually done at night to take advantage of the poor visibility of the crabs at night. Once people are located on the site they are assigned with mezcal or cloth sacks and distributed in groups. As part of the implements they have canvas gloves that are worn to catch the crabs and later they proceed to fill the bags.
Once they figure they have captured enough crabs they move to the site where they can cook, so the tendency is to go to a beach where they have a fogata, or bonfire,and where they proceed to install a gas cylinder with a butane torch on which they place a pan of boiling water and they add the crabs, bananas ,and cassava while boiling all the ingredients until they are well done. Later, each person chooses what they will eat..
Once the meal is over they proceed to clean the waste and then enjoy the beach at night, making this a lively evening, involving both men and women.
Junk (Old Money) Junkanu
This is an activity that is already done by tradition, where a group of young men dressed in old clothes wear masks to avoid being recognized and persecute people who show them money no matter if they are children or adults,This is done during the 24th, 25th, and 31st of Decembe and also January 1st.The same is celebrated during September 15th activities as well.
